Introduction HP Integrity Essentials Global Workload Manager (gWLM) automatically allocates resources among multiple workloads (based on policies you define) to increase server utilization while meeting service levels for high-priority applications. gWLM is a component of the Virtual Server Environment (VSE). Another HP offering, HP Instant Capacity (iCAP) enables you to purchase processor cores at a fraction of their regular price.

Operational Considerations The following sections discuss various behaviors to be aware of when using gWLM and GiCAP together.

The interval provided by gWLM is nominal, typically providing only twice the time of a typical implementation of a reallocation plan. When using GiCAP, several factors can require your increasing the allocation interval.

Operations on GiCAP Group Members Outside an SRD You are still able to manually execute icapmodify operations in any complex in a GiCAP group, regardless of whether any of the partitions are in an SRD. However, as gWLM 3.0.1 always tries to maintain an SRD at the size it had when it was created, the results are not likely to be permanent within the SRD. Because these operations are not permanent and may cause temporary resource management errors, you should avoid using icapmodify in a deployed SRD.
