HP Insight Management 7.3 Installation and Configuration Guide

Before you launch the Insight managed system setup wizard, all servers must be discovered with
valid credentials stored within HP Systems Insight Manager. You must also have your license keys
available for those products that require licensing.
To configure managed systems:
1. Use one of the following methods to launch the Insight managed system setup wizard:
In the Finish the Installation area on the HP Systems Insight Manager Home page, click
Run the Managed System Setup Wizard....
From the GUI, select ConfigureManaged System Setup Wizard...
2. Select one or more target servers. Click Run Now. For more information, see Systems Insight
Manager online help.
3. Select the management feature you want to configure. Valid choices are HP Systems Insight
Manager, Insight Control, HP Matrix Operating Environment, Virtual Connect Enterprise
Manager, and Insight Capacity Advisor Consolidation Software.
4. Specify customization options for those products that offer them. For example, you might need
to specify the user to configure for SSH access.
5. Click Next to begin the analysis phase, which performs analysis of the target systems to
determine the steps needed to complete configuration of the option for the management feature
or features you selected.
6. Click Add licenses... to add license keys if the selected management feature requires a license
to be applied.
7. Enter the task credentials. The configuration tasks run on the target managed systems require
them. Click Next.
8. Review a summary of the actions to be performed to enable management features.
9. Click Run Now to begin the configuration.
Step 5: Rescaling Stored CPU Utilization data in Capacity Advisor (Only
if upgrading)
A new copy of the Performance Index Database, which holds server performance benchmarks, is
installed whenever you upgrade Insight Management.
The Performance Index Database is used in pre-scaling the CPU utilization data that is stored for
capacity planning. After an Insight Management upgrade, some of the data must be recomputed
and re-scaled. This process can take a long time if there is a large history of utilization data.
In Insight Management 7.3, the recomputing task is performed after the rest of the Insight
Management upgrade is complete and the CMS is back online. This change was made to reduce
the downtime of the CMS. Although new Capacity Advisor data is not collected while the
recomputing process runs, the rest of Insight Management and the HP Matrix Operating Environment
are available.
To recompute the utilization data, follow these steps:
1. Wait until the Insight Management upgrade is complete.
The time of day to perform the recomputing task is flexible. Pick a time when Capacity Advisor
data collection can be suspended.
2. Log in to the CMS console.
3. Navigate to C:\Program Files\HP\Virtual Server Environment\bin\.
4. Recompute the data by running capupgrade.bat.
The recomputing process:
Stops Capacity Advisor data collection.
Determines the data to be recomputed.
