HP Insight Management 7.3 Installation and Configuration Guide

NOTE: SPM operations result from creating a storage pool entry for fulfillment through SPM or
from provisioning a logical server (directly or from a Matrix service template), which uses SPM
storage. Enabling or disabling the adapter results in a stop and restart of the SPM service. This
may affect ongoing SPM operations. It is recommended to enable or disable the adapter when
there are no SPM jobs running.
Enabling the adapter
To enable the adapter perform the following steps:
1. Change directory to the adapter install path. For example, c:\Program Files (x86)\
HP\Storage Provisioning Manager\EMCSymmVMAX.
2. Execute the batch script adapaterController.bat using the command
AdapterController.bat enable.
The AdapterController.bat file ensures that the SPM service restarts. When the SPM
service restarts, it detects the new adapter and allows you to select it within the Import Array
Wizard and thus imports the EMC Symmetrix VMAX arrays. You must configure the EMC
array credentials.
The EMC adapter is detected by the SPM, when the service is restarted.
Disabling the adapter
Before disabling the adapter, perform the following steps:
1. Deactivate services created for volume creation and/or volume presentations.
2. Remove the EMC Symmetrix VMAX array from the SPM catalog, if it is imported. This avoids
errors in the SPM during its periodic RefreshResources operations on the imported array
objects.
Disable the adapter by executing the AdapterController.bat file located at the following
adapter install path:
1. Change directory to adapter install path. For example, c:\Program Files (x86)\HP\
Storage Provisioning Manager\EMCSymmVMAX
2. Execute the batch script adapaterController.bat using the command
AdapterController.bat disable.
After the adapter is disabled, the AdapterController.bat file stops execution and restarts
the SPM service.
Configuring HP SPM Adapter for EMC Symmetrix VMAX component
The SPM Adapter for EMC Symmetrix VMAX must be installed and enabled for SPM to allow you
to perform import operations on the EMC Symmetrix VMAX arrays. The adapter makes various
default choices to which you must adjust the configurations. For example, if all the ports of the
EMC array are not physically connected to the Virtual Connect modules and intended for
Matrix/SPM use, or if HP-UX is being used in the environment. The following sections outline several
items the administrator can configure in the EmcSymmetrixVMaxAdapter.exe.config file
located at \plugins\storage_adapters\EMCSymmVMAX. For example, C:\Program
Files(x86)\HP\Storage Provisioning Manager\plugins\storage_adapters\
EMCSymmVMAX.
Setting EMC SMI-S Credentials
You must provide details such as the port number of EMC SMI-S Provider service, the user name
and password for the EMC SMI-S credentials used during the array discovery operation that includes
EMC array management server on which the EMC SMI-S Provider service is running. The default
adapter configuration includes the port number of the EMC SMI-S Provider service, which is set to
the default SMI-S secure port:
