NOTE: * The following ESX versions are supported: 3.5,3i,
4 Classic, and 4i.
If you are using a mixed hypervisor environment, then you must set the value of
virtual.max.concurrent.requests
to the minimum of all the hypervisor values in the environment.
For each virtual logical server, Insight Orchestration supports up to 14 private disks or 15 shared disks.
Setting up the virtual machine networks
To add a network for use by the virtual machines provisioned through Insight Orchestration, do the following:
1. Open VMware Infrastructure Client, enter the IP and credentials of your Virtual Infrastructure Server,
and then click Login.
2. For each ESX/ESXi virtual machine host in your ESX cluster, do the following:
a. In the left navigation pane, select the virtual machine host.
b. Select the Configuration tab
c. Click Networking.
d. Click Add Networking.
e. For connection type, select Virtual Machine, then click Next.
f. Depending on the network configuration of your virtual machine host, either select an existing
virtual switch or select Create a virtual switch, and then click Next.
g. In Port group properties, enter a name for your network in Network Label, and depending on
the network configuration of your virtual machine host, enter a VLAN ID.
NOTE: Insight Orchestration identifies networks based on the name you enter. If you plan to add
this network to VirtualConnect, then the name must be identical for Insight Orchestration to recognize
the network as the same network.
h. Click Next.
3. Click Finish.
Repeat the process for each network.
Creating VMM templates
For this release of Insight Orchestration, VMM templates are no longer utilized for ESX hosts. Insight
Orchestration uses VMware templates as deployment targets for ESX. In order to create VMware templates,
see Familiarizing yourself with ESX server and the task Create golden master (template) virtual disks in the
Administration Guide for VMware ESX Server 2.
Insight Orchestration utilizes an Hyper-V virtual machine as the source material for a VMM template without
any additional steps. However, to provision
recoverable
logical servers, deploy your Hyper-V virtual machine
host in a Windows cluster. For more information, see your Windows documentation.
When using Hyper-V, do not use a Hyper-V VMM template created from a virtual machine with Snapshot.
VMM templates created from a virtual machine with Snapshot, do not display on the Software tab of the
Insight Orchestration console, preventing the successful creation of an Insight Orchestration template.
To create VMM templates from virtual machines, using Systems Insight Manager, do the following:
