Using VLAN tags in a Hyper-V VM network
Insight Orchestration supports VLAN tagging with Hyper-V VM guests. VLAN tagging support
requires using HP Network Configuration Utility (NCU) to create vNICS for each VLAN on the
Hyper-V hosts and an associated Hyper-V virtual switch.
To configure your system so that HP Insight Orchestration can provision tagged Hyper-V guests,
complete the following steps.
NOTE: This procedure assumes an existing system with Hyper-V installed, and at least one NIC
connected to an 802.1Q network carrying multiple VLAN IDs. For information on adding a network
for use by the Hyper-V VM host, see “Setting up a Hyper-V virtual machine network” (page 25)).
1. Install and launch the HP Network Configuration Utility (NCU). Select StartControl PanelHP
Network Configuration Utility.
2. Configure HP NCU to present a vNIC for each VLAN ID.
1. On the Ethernet Devices tab, select the NIC carrying multiple VLAN IDs.
2. Select the VLAN(802.1Q) button. The VLAN tab is displayed.
3. On the VLAN tab, select Add, and complete the following for each VLAN ID that needs
to have a vNIC created. You must know which VLAN IDs will be used on the selected
NIC.
a. Enter a descriptive name for the VLAN in the VLAN Name field (this is the name that
will be used when configuring the Hyper-V virtual switch).
b. Enter the VLAN ID in the VLAN Id field.
