HP Insight Orchestration 6.3 User Guide

The Insight Orchestration “Static” SAN volume automation approach involves SAN volumes that
are pre-masked to one more initiator WWNs within the SAN, and zoning is also pre-configured.
These pre-created volumes are then imported into SPM and made available. SPM has a
pre-populated catalog that is used to fulfill storage requests.
SPM also provides support for “Dynamic” SAN volume automation. Unfulfilled storage requests
are easily visible in the SPM interface, and the storage administrator can view those requests and
create, present, and zone the appropriate SAN volumes using the initiator WWN included in the
request. Catalog entries contain the volume information imported or manually entered, and
authorizations can be specified at the catalog entry level, for instance, indicating an entry does
support LUN masking for particular user groups.
Once the SPM catalog has been populated, proceed to Virtualization Manager’s storage pool
entry interface and build one or more storage pool entries that reference the volumes just imported
through SPM. The following example illustrates the selection of a Linux SAN volume to build a
storage pool entry containing a 20 GB, RAID 5 boot disk.
The process is initiated by selecting ModifyLogical Server Storage Pools from Virtualization
Manager. This presents the following screen where the target portability group is selected (in this
case a Virtual Connect Domain Group) and a new pre-populated storage pool entry is added:
