Blade GS and LS servers
1 To use Insight Control power management, you must apply an iLO Advanced license to the server.
2 ProLiant BL2x220c server blades and ProLiant xw2x220c workstation blades contain two complete physical servers, and therefore,
require two software licenses for each blade.
3 For VMware ESX 3.5 Update 5, scripted installations are not supported on this server; you must use the interactive ESX installation.
4 For VMware ESX 4.0 Update 1, scripted deployment is not supported on this server; you must use the interactive ESX installation.
5 For VMware ESX 3.5 Update 5 and ESX 4.0 Update 1, scripted deployment is not supported if the Flex-10 NIC is partitioned.
Therefore, you must use the interactive ESX installation or perform a scripted installation in the default configuration and then
reconfigure the NIC for advanced use.
6 No versions of VMware ESX 3.5 are supported on this server.
7 For VMware ESX 3.5 only Boot From SAN storage is supported.
8 For SAN, only boot from SAN storage is supported. Brocade FC HBA is only supported for Microsoft Windows.
9 Insight Recovery does not support Integrity servers or non-HP servers.
10 Logical server management and infrastructure orchestration are not yet supported on these servers
11 Insight Orchestration and Insight Recovery do not support HP 9000 servers.
12 Insight Dynamics requires a separate license on non-HP, third party servers.
Other supported hardware
As a general rule, Insight software supports all external Ethernet switches, embedded NICs, Smart Array
controllers, host bus adapters (HBAs), BladeSystem mezzanines, and their plug-in equivalents, assuming that
they are installed with the latest firmware and drivers.
SAN functionality
Insight Dynamics supports the use of virtual and physical logical servers. Virtual logical servers use storage
from the file system of the hypervisor. Physical logical servers use storage provisioned from the SAN for
flexible movement.
HP recommends Fibre Channel Storage Area Network (SAN) with boot-from-SAN capability (for physical
blade deployments). Insight Dynamics supports any Fibre Channel storage solution, which supports the Virtual
Connect environment, N_Port ID Virtualization (NPIV), and boot-from-SAN capability (boot volume as a
pre-presented LUN). To realize the benefits of Virtual Connect logical servers, including the ability to move
logical servers and to easily repurpose server blades associated with inactive logical servers, you must
remove or disable any local disks.
Insight Dynamics does not support physical provisioning with the HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization
Services Platform, which does not currently support the presentation of storage to a Virtual Connect HBA
initiator WWN that is not visible on the SAN fabric at the time of the presentation. Virtual Connect initiator
WWNs are not visible on the SAN fabric until they are applied to a server HBA which has been powered-on.
Use of Insight Recovery requires an EVA or XP array per site plus HP StorageWorks Continuous Access
replication software.
