HP Matrix Operating Environment 7.3 Update 1 Installation and Configuration Guide for Provisioning with Virtual Resources

3 Preparing the Central Management Server
Finalizing the Windows installation on the CMS server
This section describes the required steps you must perform after installing Microsoft Windows to
prepare a server to install Insight Management software.
If you plan for your CMS to be member of a Microsoft Active Directory domain, join the domain
prior to installing any Insight Management software. Also consider that any future migration from
a standalone CMS to a cluster CMS will be easier if the standalone CMS and the future cluster
CMS are members of the same Windows domain. However, starting in Matrix 7.0, data migration
is supported between a workgroup CMS and a domain-based (cluster) CMS. Data migration
between different Windows domains is not supported. A cluster CMS is always domain-based. A
standalone CMS may be either workgroup or domain-based.
Several key attributes of the CMS operating system can be modified after Insight Management is
installed using the MXRECONFIG command in the CMS Reconfigure tool. For information on how
to use the CMS Reconfigure Tool, see theHP Systems Insight Manager User Guide available at
Enterprise Information Library. However, it is a best practice to verify that the attributes identified
below are correct before installation:
Hostname
The IP address associated with the hostname
Full name or domain, including FQDN
Any DNS entries corresponding to the hostname and domain
Follow these steps to finish the Windows networking configuration and data execution prevention
settings on the CMS.
1. Configure the Computer name and DNS suffix for the CMS.
While setting the name and workgroup or domain, also set the FQDN of the CMS.
a. Browse to Server Manager.
b. Click Change system properties in the server summary screen.
c. Select the Computer Name tab.
d. Click Change to change the server name.
e. Click More and fill in the primary DNS suffix for the CMS.
f. Clear the Change primary DNS suffix when domain membership changes checkbox.
Once Insight Management software is installed, this cannot change even if the domain
is changed.
2. Set the domain name and reboot (or wait until finished with the next step.)
