Logical server fails to power on when logical server is activated with power on
Issue
When a logical server is activated with the power on option, in rare cases the activation step might
succeed while failing to power on the logical server. This is indicated by a job status of
SomeFailure
Suggested actions
Power on the logical server by selecting ToolsLogical ServersPowerOn.
Logical Server Automation service fails to start if TCP layer ports are in use
Issue
Logical Server Automation service fails to start and displays the following error message:
The nnn port used by the Logical Server Automation service is currently
in use. Ensure that there is a free port, edit the lsaclient.properties
file to replace the port in use with a free port, and restart the service
Possible causes
The Logical Server Automation service reads the TCP layer port from the lsaclient.properties
file. By default, the Logical Server Automation service uses the following port numbers:
LSA_RMI_PORT=51001
LSA_JMS_PORT=51002
If either of these ports is currently in use, the Logical Server Automation service will look for open
ports using a random algorithm. If the service finds available open ports, the service will write the
port numbers into lsaclient.properties. If the Logical Server Automation service cannot find
two available ports, the service will fail to start.
Suggested actions
Edit the lsaclient.properties file and replace the port in use with a free port, and restart
the service. To determine a free port, use the command netstat -A.
Virtual machine logical server is incorrectly reflected in the Logical Server Status
Issue
The power state of a virtual machine logical server is incorrectly reflected in the Logical Server
Status post crash and recovery of the virtual machine logical server.
Possible causes
The HP SIM and Insight Control virtual machine management databases may contain information
about the virtual machine logical server before the crash and may not have been refreshed post
crash and recovery.
Suggested actions
Initiate a Matrix OE logical server management Refresh operation post recovery to obtain the
updated power status. Select ToolsHP Matrix OE visualization. Then select Logical server from
the Perspective drop-down menu. Then select ToolsLogical ServersRefresh. Choose HP SIM
and Insight Control virtual machine management subsystems.
Virtual machine logical server is reflected as Active on unknown host while performing an activate
operation
Issue

completed on the VM host that crashed while performing a virtual machine logical server activate
operation on the host. The activate operation was completed successfully post crash.
