HP Matrix Operating Environment 7.3 Update 1 Installation and Configuration Guide for Provisioning with Virtual Resources

Suggested actions
1. Check whether the database server or service is up and running. If the database is up and
running, try restarting Insight Control virtual machine manager service from the Windows
Services. If the Insight Control virtual machine manager service shuts down again continue to
the next step.
2. Check the database connectivity using the database user ID and password given in the HP
SIM through a database client software. If the connection is successful, sync up the database
user ID and password in HP SIM. Restart HP SIM and Insight Control virtual machine manager
services.
3. If database connectivity cannot be established with the credentials as given in the HP SIM,
check whether the database user id has been locked out. Take the appropriate action to unlock
the user and try restarting the Insight Manager and Insight Control virtual machine manager
services.
4. Ensure there are no duplicate IP Address of the database server in the network.
Operations related to Hyper-V guests
Issue
The operations from Insight Management components on the Microsoft Hyper-V servers could result
in temporary files being created at C:\ on the Hyper-V host. These files are not required after the
operation completes and can be removed manually. These operations include virtual machine copy
/ move / template / back-up / linked clone.
Suggested actions
Manually remove these files.
Hyper-V R2 hosts may hang while undergoing rapid VM creation/deletion operation
Issue
Microsoft Hyper-V host servers might hang in situations where many simultaneous virtual machine
operations (such as creating, deleting, or activating virtual machines) are taking place.
The source server is running without Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 or later.
The source server does not have the Microsoft Storport Storage Driver from KB article 932755
installed.
The migration is performed to a destination server connected to a SAN LUN
The SAN fabric zone has multiple paths between the destination server and the SAN storage.
Suggested actions
Microsoft Corporation has supplied a patch that corrects the problem. To download the patch and
install it on your Hyper-V hosts, see the following website:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/980081
If the IP address of the host changes, Insight Control virtual machine management cannot
manage the host
Issue
If the IP address of a hypervisor host is changed, Insight Control virtual machine management will
not be able to manage the host.
Suggested actions
HP recommends that you unregister the hypervisor host before changing the IP address. After the
IP address is changed, identify the host in HP SIM and register with virtual machine management.
If the IP address is changed without unregistering the host, unregister the host with the old IP address
using the vmcli tool and register with the new IP address.
