Cannot register vCenter in Insight Control virtual machine management
Issue
Insight Control virtual machine management can discover a vCenter server, but it cannot find the
serial number or UUID.
Possible causes
• An attempt was made to discover the vCenter server using a non-Administrator account.
• WMI service is not running on the vCenter server.
• WMI mapper proxy is not configured properly on the CMS.
Suggested actions
• If vCenter is installed on a VM, then install WMI Mapper on the vCenter server. Use WMI to
re-identify the vCenter server with administrator credentials.
• If vCenter is installed on the physical server, use WMI to re-identify the vCenter server with
administrator credentials in HP SIM.
• Configure WMI mapper proxy properly on the CMS. In HP SIM, navigate to Options→Protocol
Settings→WMI Mapper Proxy.
Virtual machine names do not display correctly in the Insight Control virtual machine
management user interface
Issue
Virtual machine names may not be displayed correctly in the Insight Control virtual machine
management user interface if the virtual machine name contains special characters.
Suggested actions
HP recommends avoiding special characters in virtual machine names. Rename such virtual machine
names appropriately.
Host/Guest control buttons disabled
Issue
If the virtual machine names have non-ANSI characters, the control buttons in the Host/Guest
system page are disabled.
Suggested actions
From the HP SIM user interface, run Tools→Virtual Machine, then select the appropriate control
operations.
