HP Matrix Operating Environment 7.3 Update 1 Installation and Configuration Guide for Provisioning with Virtual Resources

7 Configuring VMware vCenter and Microsoft System Center
Virtual Machine Manager settings
To take full advantage of your hypervisors in the Matrix OE solution, configure connectivity with
your VMware vCenter Server and/or Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager. To deploy
VMware virtual machines, access to at least one vCenter server with templates is required. However,
you can deploy Microsoft virtual machines by either using templates on a Microsoft SCVMM server
or by generating templates directly from VMs on a Hyper-V server.
All operations within the Insight Management software will be performed using the configured
accounts and authorizations as expressed in HP SIM and IO. The VME credentials used in this
section are not required to be the same credentials used for the server discovery.
NOTE: For new vCenter or SCVMM servers, you must discover the server before you configure
settings. For information about how to create a discovery task for a vCenter or SCVMM server,
see “Configuring discovery and credentials” (page 56).
HP does not support a configuration that uses the same CMS or Insight Control server deployment
server for the VMware vCenter server.
Use the following instructions to check or change the settings, and to add new vCenter or SCVMM
settings.
1. In HP SIM, select a vCenter or SCVMM server. If you have not made a selection a selection
screen will appear. HP recommends that you only select one at a time.
2. Select OptionsVME OptionsAdd or Edit VME Credentials....
3. If you have not already selected one, select the vCenter or SCVMM server as a target system.
4. On the Add or Edit VME Credentials screen, select vcenter or scvmm in the Protocol menu and
fill in the port, user name, and password information for the vCenter or SCVMM server. Click
OK.
NOTE:
For vCenter, the credentials must have the permissions listed in “Configuring vCenter
server accounts” (page 169).
For SCVMM servers, which are part of a domain, you must use domain credentials, not
a local administrative account.
