HP Matrix Operating Environment 7.3 Update 1 Installation and Configuration Guide for Provisioning with Virtual Resources

9 Configuring and licensing with managed system setup
wizard
The Insight managed system setup wizard (MSSW) sets up selected systems with the appropriate
agents, licenses and configuration steps for the managed features you specify. If you need to
modify the configuration or management features on your systems, you can re-run this wizard to
make changes. You can also use the wizard to diagnose configuration issues.
WARNING! If you accidently discover a host outside the intended licensed environment that is
associated with the CMS or a VME server, MSSW requires you to license that host. Once a host
is discovered and the associations to its VMs are populated in HP SIM, you cannot remove that
host or those associations without also removing all the hosted VMs. If one of those VMs is your
CMS, you cannot delete it.
If you are unable to remove such a host and all its associated VMs, enter mxnode r <host>
x force at the command line to remove the unlicensed host and its associations from HP SIM.
NOTE: Follow the instructions in this section to configure and license all the managed systems
that you have discovered. Rerun the managed system setup wizard after installing any additional
hypervisors and after installing any other server blade operating systems.
Checklist
Before you begin, review the following checklist to ensure your target systems are ready to be
analyzed and configured by the managed system setup wizard. Verify that:
Target systems are fully discovered.
Valid credentials for target systems are stored within HP SIM.
HP SIM discovery and identification was successful for all target systems.
Ensure hypervisor host time remains synchronized with CMS—all hypervisor hosts and their
management servers must have a proper time source and remain in reasonable synchronization
with the CMS. For example, each VMware ESX server has the ability to specify a set of NTP
time servers. NTP protocol recommends that you use at least three distinct NTP servers.
Using managed system setup wizard
One instance of Insight managed system setup wizard can run at a time in HP SIM software.
NOTE: You must set your web browser to allow HP SIM to open pop-up windows. Otherwise,
the managed system setup wizard will not be able to start in a new window.
Steps of the wizard
Follow these steps to select and configure managed systems.
1. Select managed systems.
In the System Collection, click SystemsSharedSystem by TypeVirtual Machine HostsAll
Virtual Machine Hosts. Select all the hosts you want to license.
NOTE: If you have an environment with servers that are not yet running a hypervisor host,
be sure to include those in your selection otherwise they will not be licensed for future use.
