Creating Thin Volume
On the EMC Symmetrix VMAX array, a thin volume is always created on a thin pool. A thin pool is normally created for a
specific RAID level. The SPM adapter doesn’t create a thin pool, hence it is required that the storage administrator create a
thin pool for a given RAID using EMC native tools (SMC, SYMCLI).
Importing an EMC Symmetrix VMAX storage array into SPM
Importing arrays, storage pools, and volumes from the EMC Symmetrix VMAX requires the adapter to be enabled. To enable
the adapter complete the steps described in the earlier Installation section.
When the adapter is enabled, follow the steps below to import the array(s).
Note
The HP Storage Provisioning Manager User Guide (available at hp.com/go/matrixoe/docs) explains how to import arrays,
storage pools, and volumes from a storage array in more detail.
Open https://<CMS Server>:8000 in a browser to access the login page for SPM.
Login into SPM using the same credentials as the Matrix CMS.
On the left pane, click on Arrays located under Resources (you will see a screen similar to Figure 3A):
