About DSS Version 5.0x.xx

DSS version 5.0x.xx is the newest version of DSS. Customers can upgrade from most previous versions of

DSS to version 5.0, including DSS 4.25.xx, 4.91.xx, and DSS 4.3->4.20. Some of the new features offered

by DSS 5.0 are:

Licensing Information Licensing for DSS version 5.0x.xx is the same as it was for earlier 4.x, 4.25.xx and 4.91.xx versions. Licenses are still node locked to a server MAC address and can only be used on a server with the MAC address for which they were locked. The DSS code downloaded from hp.com is a production version of the code that contains a trial license that is good for 50 devices for up to 60 days. Keying in a license that has been purchased will cancel the trial license.

The DSS code families have all been similar but there are some differences between them.

Enhancements for Version 5.01.51 Enhancements 1. DSS is now able to provide 3DES or AES-128 encryption for encrypted email sent via DSS. Before the only choice was AES-256 encryption. The DSS server is configured to provide one type of encryption or the other. It is not possible to set the encryption algorithm on a per device basis. AES-256 encryption is on by default. To configure the server to use 3DES or AES-128 encryption follow these steps: a. Edit the following xml file: ..

The values of both of these fields are controlled by setting the value for the SubjectIdentifier field in a configuration file. To modify which set of values is used follow these steps: a) Edit the configuration file: ..\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP Digital Sending Software\FileSystems\Product\Dss\Configuration\HP.Mfp.Pja.Resources.Email.Config b) To change from the default values add an element named as shown below.

Defect Fixes - - - - - DSS can be configured to create PDF/A OCR jobs for pre-FutureSmart devices using a configuration file. This configuration is supposed to be used when the file type set in the device configuration is PDF. When the configuration was set to create PDF/A files the PDF/A files were always being created by the OCR engine, even if a completely different file type, such as TIFF, was selected in the device configuration.

Defect Fixes for Version 5.01.03 Defect Fixes - When two workflow jobs were received within about 1 second of each other, and they were created on different MFPs but using the same workflow form, there is the possibility of corruption of the metadata associated with the jobs. One example that can occur is when the names of the output files are set by the end user using the “OCR FILE NAME” prompt: this could result in the output file name for the second job received being incorrect.

 o The size of a folder will vary depending on the length of the string which defines its destination, and also if there are multiple destinations defined in the folder. For DSS servers that have FutureSmart devices with firmware earlier than FutureSmart2 SP3 (July 2013) the administrator can try changing the setting to 25 and testing the results. If devices do not get the full list of folders the setting should be lowered until the full list of folders does appear.
