HP Storage P6000 VDS and VSS Hardware Providers 4.07.00 for Windows Server 2003 Release Notes (5697-1129, August 2011)

Installation Instructions
If you are installing the hardware providers for the first time, proceed with the installation normally.
If the currently installed version of the hardware provider is older than version 4.01.02, you will need
to remove it manually (later versions of the hardware provider are removed automatically by the
hardware provider installation program). Before removing the hardware providers, issue a net stop
VSS and/or a net stop VDS command from the command line.
There are three installers for the hardware providers:
HP_Storage_VDS_VSS_Hardware_Provider_P6000_v4_07_00_x86.exe
HP_Storage_VDS_VSS_Hardware_Provider_P6000_v4_07_00_x64.exe
HP_Storage_VDS_VSS_Hardware_Provider_P6000_v4_07_00_ia64.exe
For installation instructions see the HP Storage Hardware Providers for VDS/VSS installation guide
(5697-0804, February 2011). The guide is included with the installation software package and
provides detailed installation and configuration instructions.
Compatibility/Interoperability
Only one dedicated Command View workstation is supported within the SAN configuration which
manages VDS/VSS storage resources.
If the P6000 VSS hardware provider and P6000 Command View are present on the same server,
do not include the drive letter or mount point where the P6000 Command View software is located
as part of a shadow copy volume set. For example, if the P6000 VSS hardware provider and
P6000 Command View are on drive D, do not include drive D with an P6000 LUN in a shadow
copy set. Doing so causes the P6000 VSS hardware provider to time out due to conflict with
Command View logging on this drive.
Mirrorclones are supported with microcode version XCS 6.11 or later.
Version 4.04.00 of the HP Storage Enterprise Virtual Array Hardware Providers software is the
last version that will support the HP Storage 3000 EVA Storage System and the HP Storage 5000
EVA Storage System.
The hardware providers do not support vdisks created under a folder that is nested within 40 or
more recursively nested folders.
After a LUN shrink operation using the VDS hardware provider, you must perform the Subsystem
Renumerate operation to update the LUN properties.
VSS Hardware Provider
Supports VMware VM (Shadow Copy creation only).
Supports Hyper-V Host and Guest O/S (Guest O/S - Shadow Copy creation only).
NOTE:
For VMware and Hyper-v Guest Operating systems, only Raw Device Mapping (RDM) disks
are supported.
VDS Hardware Provider
Supports Hyper-V Host and Guest O/S. The unmask/present operation of a LUN to the local
host is not supported on a Hyper-V guest OS.
