Neoview Database Administrator's Guide (R2.5)

Installing Management Tools
Installation instructions for Neoview management tools are provided in the README document
for that client:
README for the HP Database Manager
README for the HP Neoview Command Interface (NCI)
README for the HP Neoview Performance Analysis Tools
README for the HP Neoview Transporter Java Client
You can find these READMEs, as well as the rest of the Neoview documentation set, on the HP
BSC portal: http://www.hp.com/go/neoviewdocs.
Starting the HP Database Manager (HPDM)
Start HPDM by either:
Clicking the HP Database Manager icon on your Windows desktop, or
Selecting Start > All Programs > HP Database Manager > HP Database
Manager
HPDM requires a Windows environment and an ODBC driver. For information about installing
HPDM, see the HP Database Manager (HPDM) User Guide and the README for the HP Database
Manager.
Starting the Neoview Command Interface (NCI)
You can start NCI on your Windows, Linux, or UNIX workstation, or from your HPDM session.
To start NCI:
From HPDM: Select Tools>Neoview Command Interface from the HPDM main menu.
The user credentials from your HPDM session are used to log on to NCI. For more
information about launching NCI from HPDM, including setting auto logon properties, see
the Neoview HP Database Manager (HPDM) User Guide.
On Windows:
1. Navigate to the Windows launch file, hpnci.cmd, in the Neoview Command Interface
bin folder.
2. Double-click the hpnci.cmd file. The Neoview Command Interface appears, prompting
you to enter the host name or IP address of the database platform, your user name,
password, and a data source name.
On Linux or UNIX: In the terminal window, enter:
./hpnci-installation-directory/nci/bin/hpnci.sh.
hpnci-installation-directory is the directory where you installed the NCI software
files.
For more information about launching NCI and using NCI, see the Neoview Command Interface
(NCI) Guide.
Working With Database Objects
You create all objects in your database, except for two schemas that come preconfigured with
your Neoview platform (See “Schemas” (page 16)). You create database objects by issuing SQL
statements, interactively or in scripts, using NCI. For the syntax of Neoview SQL statements,
refer to the Neoview SQL Reference Manual. To run commands or scripts in NCI, see the Neoview
Command Interface (NCI) Guide.
