Neoview ODBC Drivers Manual (R2.5)

About This Document
This manual describes how to configure HP Neoview ODBC drivers for Microsoft Windows and
the HP Neoview ODBC drivers for UNIX (HP-UX, Linux, IBM AIX®, and Sun Solaris for
SPARC®). The drivers enable applications developed for the Microsoft Open Database
Connectivity (ODBC) application programming interface (API) to access the HP Neoview database.
Installation instructions are included in the README for the HP Neoview ODBC Driver for Windows
and README for the HP Neoview ODBC Drivers for UNIX.
Intended Audience
This document is intended for anyone who configures, manages, or troubleshoots HP ODBC
software and connectivity, for ODBC application programmers who write 32-bit or 64-bit
applications to access an HP Neoview database, and for other end users or application
programmers who use HP Neoview ODBC drivers to access a Neoview database.
New and Changed Information in This Edition
The following information is new or changed in this edition of this manual:
• Removed references to DB Admin
• Windows 64, and HP-UX PA-RISC 64-bit and 32–bit platforms are now supported.
• Removed references to LONGVARCHAR, which is no longer supported.
• Added new information about passwords and security certificates for client workstations.
Reorganized this information into a new sections for Windows and UNIX overviews.
• Added password and certificate related error messages to Appendix C.
• Added the new compression option.
• Added a new chapter for Unicode support for UNIX
• Added a section on setting the client character set for UNIX ODBC Drivers.

This document is organized as follows:
• Chapter 1: “ HP Neoview ODBC Driver Overview for Windows” (page 15), provides an
overview of the HP Neoview ODBC driver on Windows.
• Chapter 2: “ HP Neoview ODBC Drivers Overview for UNIX” (page 31), provides an
overview of the HP Neoview ODBC drivers on Linux, HP-UX, IBM AIX®, and Sun Solaris.
• Chapter 3 (page 47) provides an overview of the HP Neoview Unicode driver for Windows.
• Chapter 4 (page 51) provides an overview of the HP Neoview Unicode driver for Windows.
• Chapter 5: “Accessing Neoview SQL Data From Microsoft ODBC .NET Data Provider”
(page 53) describes how to access data stored in HP Neoview applications using the ODBC
.NET data provider to wrap the ODBC APIs.
• Chapter 6: “ Configuring Client Data Sources” (page 57), describes how to configure data
sources on Windows, Linux, HP-UX, IBM AIX®, and Sun Solaris.
• Chapter 7: “ HP Neoview ODBC Drivers Conformance” (page 63), contains tables that
describe HP Neoview ODBC drivers conformance to standard ODBC API functions and
SQL conformance levels.
• Chapter 8: “HP Neoview ODBC Drivers Messages” (page 75), describes HP Neoview ODBC
drivers error codes.
In previous releases, this manual contained a chapter related to installing the ODBC drivers.
That information is now contained in the README for the HP Neoview ODBC Driver for Windows
and README for the HP Neoview ODBC Drivers for UNIX, both available at docs.hp.com.
