HP OneView for VMware vCenter User Guide (7.4)

Deleting a datastore
You can delete a datastore if it is not used by a VM or VM template.
If the disk used by the datastore is replicated using snapshot, the delete operation will fail.
If the datastore is used by a VM or VM template, the delete operation will fail.
Delete a datastore using the vSphere Web Client
Use this procedure with the VMware 5.5 vSphere Web Client. If you are using the VMware 5.1
vSphere Web Client, follow the procedure in “Delete a datastore using the vSphere Client”
(page 93).
To delete a datastore:
1. Start the vSphere Web Client and access HP Management.
2. Use one of the following methods to open the Delete Datastore window:
Right-click a datastore and select HP ManagementDelete Datastore.
Select ActionsDelete Datastore on any HP Management page for a datastore.
Right-click a datastore in any StoreFront Module for vCenter table, and then select Delete
Datastore.
3. If any errors are shown, address them and then retry the operation. Otherwise, click Delete
to confirm the operation.
The StoreFront Module for vCenter unpresents the storage volumes from all hosts, deletes the
volumes, and re-scans the hosts. When these tasks are complete, the deleted datastore is no
longer displayed in the vSphere Client.
If the delete operation cannot be performed, an error message is displayed describing why
the operation failed.
TIP:
View the progress of the operation in the Tasks pane of the vSphere Client.
Manual cache refresh is not necessary when the operation is finished. The cache will be
refreshed automatically.
Delete a datastore using the vSphere Client
Follow this procedure when using the vSphere Client or the VMware 5.1 vSphere Web Client.
After a datastore is deleted by the plug-in, the corresponding volume is removed in HP OneView.
To ensure that the datastore is deleted properly:
The HP OneView server profile corresponding to an ESX Host that is managed by the plug-in
must be created in HP OneView.
The same storage systems must be configured in the plug-in and in HP OneView.
The same CPGs must be configured in the plug-in and in HP OneView.
To delete a datastore:
1. Start the vSphere Client and access HP Management.
2. Use one of the following methods to specify a datastore to delete:
Right-click a datastore and select HP ManagementDelete Datastore.
In the vSphere Web Client, select ActionsDelete Datastore on the HP Management
page for a datastore.
In the vSphere Client, select Delete Datastore from the Actions drop-down list.
