Introduction Introduction You have already installed and configured your HP AllianceONE Services zl Module for Avaya Aura Session Border Controller product, as described in the Installation and Getting Started Guide (5998-0301) for that module product. The complete product consists of the HP AllianceONE Services zl Module, the Avaya Aura System Platform, and the Avaya Aura Session Border Controller Powered by Acme Packet Application software.
Managing the HP Avaya SBC Product Managing the HP Avaya SBC Product From the hardware perspective, the HP Avaya SBC Product will not require regularly scheduled management, but there are both hardware and software tools available to monitor the status of the module. Hardware Management Tools ■ Switch LEDs – The HP ProCurve switches have status LEDs on them indicating the status of the module hardware.
Managing the HP Avaya SBC Product Software Management Tools Switch CLI The switch CLI provides show commands that can be used to monitor the HP Avaya SBC Product: ■ show modules – displays that the HP Avaya SBC zl Module is recognized by the switch and what switch slots the module is installed in.
Managing the HP Avaya SBC Product ■ show services – displays the services that are being run on the various HP AllianceONE Services modules installed in the switch. For the HP Avaya SBC Product, the display would look like the following: ■ show interfaces – used to monitor the status of the two internal ports on the module, and the network traffic being transmitted and received on those ports.
Managing the HP Avaya SBC Product There are also separate command options available for each of the services being run on the module, as specified by the name of the service or by the index integer for the service, as shown in the show services command: ■ svcs-mod (always index 1) is for the Services Module Agent (SMA) running on the module. Entering the command services 1 gets you to the application context CLI for the SMA.
Managing the HP Avaya SBC Product The ip command in this menu is what you used to configure the System Platform Domain-0 (Dom-0), the Management Console (cdom), the Default Gateway, and the Primary DNS Server with their initial IP addresses. Important: Remember that the Dom-0 and cdom IP addresses must be in the same subnet. Although the initial configuration of these addresses is made through this CLI, changes to these IP addresses must be made through the Avaya Aura System Platform web console.
Managing the HP Avaya SBC Product Management Tasks Monitoring the Module Status There are several tools that you can use to monitor the status of the HP Avaya SBC Product. The Status LED on the front of the module gives a good indication of the general health of the module and software, but requires that you go to the physical location for the module.
Managing the HP Avaya SBC Product running Application initialized and ready halted Module is shut down halted without shutdown Module is shut down without a shutdown command being issued rebooting Module is rebooting not responding Application connection to switch is closed (usually prior to reboot / shutdown) shutting down Application responding to services shutdown command application terminated The Application has shut down in response to the shutdown command booting timed out A
Managing the HP Avaya SBC Product • show interfaces display This command provides real-time counters showing the network traffic for all the switch ports, including the two internal ports on the HP Avaya SBC, as shown in the image above. The data is updated every few seconds. You can scroll to highlight a specific port and press s to select Show details to get more detailed counter information for that port.
Managing the HP Avaya SBC Product Completing Additional Recommended Configuration In addition to the basic configuration, which is covered in the HP AllianceONE Services zl Module for Avaya Aura Session Border Controller powered by Acme Packet Installation and Getting Started Guide, there is other configuration that you should consider Hardware Security Configuration: The HP AllianceONE Services zl Module has a Module Shutdown button and a USB port on its front panel.
Troubleshooting Troubleshooting If you are experiencing error conditions with your HP Avaya SBC Product, such as dropped phone calls, poor call quality, or the SBC is not responding when you try to access it, you may be experiencing a software or hardware malfunction with the HP Avaya SBC product.
Troubleshooting Success: If you see this screen, but you are still having the communication errors or SBC performance problems, then the error condition is associated with the Avaya Aura SBC Application, not the Avaya Aura System Platform or the HP AllianceONE zl Module hardware. Contact your Avaya support representative for assistance. For more information, go to the Avaya web site: http://www.avaya.com/support.
Troubleshooting 2. Test the IP Addressing These procedures will help to identify specific Avaya Aura System Platform software problems. You first test to confirm that you can access the System Platform commands, and then verify the IP addresses for the HP Avaya SBC Product. Confirm Access to the System Platform Commands 1. From your terminal emulator, running on a PC that is in the same subnet as your HP Avaya SBC Product, Telnet to the switch in which the module is installed. 2.
Troubleshooting Success: If the two entries for your HP Avaya SBC product are shown in the show services command display, then access the System Platform commands as described next. 3. At the prompt, enter the command services .
Troubleshooting The showip command will display the IP addressing for the HP Avaya SBC Product. Note: While you are viewing the IP configuration, confirm that the Dom-0 and cdom IP addresses are in the same subnet. This is a requirement for the HP Avaya SBC product to work correctly. If you have used the incorrect cdom IP address in test 1, then return to “1. Test access to the Avaya Aura System Platform Web Console” on page 13, and rerun that test with the correct IP address in the URL. 2.
Troubleshooting 4. If you still cannot access the web console, then try shutting down and reloading the HP Avaya SBC product as described under See “Restarting the HP Avaya SBC Product” on page 19. If you still cannot access the web console, then the communications problems you have been experiencing are due to an Avaya Aura System Platform error condition. Contact your Avaya support representative for assistance. For more information, go to the Avaya web site: http://www.avaya.com/support.
Troubleshooting 4. At the next prompt, enter the command /sbin/service tomcat restart. 5. When the restart process completes, try accessing the Web Console again by using the cdom IP address in the URL from your web browser. Restarting the HP Avaya SBC Product One of the basic troubleshooting procedures is to shut down and restart the HP Avaya SBC product. Follow these restart procedures: 1. 2. Try stopping and restarting the module: a.
Troubleshooting ■ Module: From the switch CLI manager context, enter the command services to go to the module’s svcs-mod context. The index for the svcs mod service is always 1, so for example, if the HP Avaya SBC zl Module is in slot I, you would enter services I 1. In that context, then enter show tech. hostswitch (svcs-mod-I:App)# show tech Switch Logs For more information about the status of the module and for possible error entries, view the switch event log.
Troubleshooting Switch and Module LEDs One way to determine if there is a hardware problem is to look at the Status LED on the module. If the module hardware is operating correctly, the Status LED will be on solid green. If the Status LED is on solid orange or flashing orange, there may be a problem with the module’s circuitry, hard disk, or compact flash. See the switch log for more information.
