BFD for RIP provides the following link detection modes:
Single-hop echo detection mode for a directly connected RIP neighbor. In this mode, a BFD session
is established only when the neighbor has route information to send.
Single-hop echo detection mode for a specific destination. In this mode, a BFD session is
established to the specified RIP neighbor only when the RIP-enabled interface is up.
Bidirectional control detection mode for an indirectly connected neighbor. In this mode, a BFD
session is established only when both ends have routes to send and BFD is enabled on the receiving
interface.
For more information about BFD, see High Availability Configuration Guide.
Configuring single-hop echo detection (for a directly connected RIP neighbor)
Ste

Command
Remarks
1. Enter system view.
system-view N/A
2. Configure the source IP
address of BFD echo
packets.
bfd echo-source-ip ip-address
By default, no source IP address is
configured for BFD echo packets.
3. Enter interface view.

4. Enable BFD for RIP.
rip bfd enable
By default, BFD for RIP is disabled.
The rip bfd enable command and the rip bfd
enable destination command are mutually
exclusive and cannot be configured on a
device at the same time.
Configuring single-hop echo detection (for a specific destination)
Configure this feature when the peer device does not support BFD. When a unidirectional link occurs
between the local device and a specific neighbor, BFD can detect the failure and the local device does
not receive or send any RIP packets through the interface connected to the neighbor to improve
convergence speed. When the link recovers, the interface can send RIP packets again.
To configure BFD for RIP (single hop echo detection for a specific destination):

2. Configure the source IP
address of BFD echo
packets.
bfd echo-source-ip ip-address
By default, no source IP address is
configured for BFD echo packets.
