Implementation of MSTP on devices
MSTP is compatible with STP and RSTP. Devices that run MSTP can recognize STP and RSTP protocol
packets used for spanning tree calculation.
In addition to basic MSTP functions, the following functions are provided for ease of management:
• Root bridge hold
• Root bridge backup
• Root guard
• BPDU guard
• Loop guard
• TC-BPDU guard
Protocols and standards
• IEEE 802.1d, Media Access Control (MAC) Bridges
• IEEE 802.1w, Part 3: Media Access Control (MAC) Bridges—Amendment 2: Rapid Reconfiguration
• IEEE 802.1s, Virtual Bridged Local Area Networks—Amendment 3: Multiple Spanning Trees
Configuring MSTP in the Web interface
Recommend MSTP configuration procedure
Before you configure MSTP on devices, find out the role of each device in the spanning tree instance,
which can be root bridge or leaf node. Each spanning tree instance has only one root bridge, and all the
other devices in the instance are leaf nodes.
To configure MSTP in the Web interface:

p
Remarks
1. Configuring an MST
region.
Optional.
Configure the MST region name, the revision level, and VLAN-to-instance
mappings.
By default, the MST region name is the bridge MAC address, the revision
level is 0, and all VLANs in an MST region are mapped to MSTI 0.
2. Configuring MSTP globally.
Optional.
Enable MSTP globally and configure MSTP parameters.
By default, MSTP is enabled globally, and all MSTP parameters adopt the
default values.
3. Configuring MSTP on a
port.
Optional.
Enable MSTP on a port and configure MSTP parameters.
By default, MSTP is enabled on a port, and all MSTP parameters adopt the
default values.
