Then in the Preferences window, locate the option for “Passthrough Mode” and place a check mark in
its box:
You may then close the Preferences Window. When Passthrough Mode is thus enabled, any file you
drop onto the CSIU window will be sent directly to the server for manipulation by the print server.
Configuring the ColorSpan Downloader Utility
On your Macintosh or MS-Windows workstation, launch the ColorSpan Downloader Utility (CSDU).
Consult Tech Notes 2526 and 2527, mentioned above, if you require assistance installing and/or setting
up the CSDU.
To download an EPS image, no additional configuration of the CSDU is required. Go to the File menu
and select “Download...”, then use the navigation controls to select the EPS image you wish to
download, and click OK. The CSDU will show a status bar while the file is downloading. When
download is complete, return to the print server to begin working with the EPS/Bitmap Manual tools.
To download a TIFF or JPEG for use with the EPS/Bitmap Manual tools, you must make sure that your
CSDU is configured properly.
If you are using a MacOS workstation, go to the Edit menu and select “Preferences...”. In the
window that appears, make sure that the “TIFF Download Format” option is set to “8.40 or later”,
then click OK.
If you are using an MS-Windows workstation, go to the Setup menu as select “TIFF Support”.
Make sure that “Server-side TIFF support” is checked.
Note: If your version of the CSDU for MacOS or PC lacks the options described
above, then it is an older version and you must upgrade to a more current version
before proceeding.
Once this configuration has been made, go to the File menu and select “Download...”. Then use the
navigation controls to select the TIFF or JPEG image you wish to download, and click OK. The CSDU
will show a status bar while the file is downloading. Note: if you have used the CSDU previously to
download TIFF images, you may now observe that the Downloader interface is significantly different,
and that you are no longer presented with any sizing options. This is because all sizing and related
options that were formerly made in the CSDU are now made on the ColorSpan print server. If you wish
to return to the original method of downloading TIFFs, undo the configurations described in the
preceding paragraph. When download is complete, return to the print server to begin working with the
EPS/Bitmap Manual tools.
Using the EPS/Bitmap Manual Tools
When you return to your ColorSpan print server, you should now observe that the Input Attention Queue
is visible at the bottom of the “Input” column. If you downloaded a EPS image, you will see its name
