HP Reference Information Storage System v1.6 Administrator Guide (T3559-96073, July 2007)

Volume TAPE.3 was used for the database b ackup.
4. Move backup vo lumes off-site:
a. This command should list the volumes TAPE.2 and TAPE.3:
tsm: INTERNAL>query drmedia * wherestate=mountable
tsm: INTERNAL>move drmedia * wherestate=mountable
Volumes TAPE.2 and 3 were moved to the exit port of the library; their state was set to
notmountable.
b. This marks the state of the two volumes as courier:
tsm: INTERNAL>move drmedia * wherestate=notmountable
c. Markstateofthevolumesasvault:
tsm: INTERNAL>move drmedia * wherestate=courier
5. Create the re covery plan le and copy it to a safe location.
This le includes the conguration information.
a. Create the directory c:\tsmbackup on the backup server.
b. Issue tsm: INTERNAL>prepare planprefix=c:\tsmbackup\recplan.
This process creates a single le that contains instructions, macros, the Volume History, Device
Conguration, and Server Options le.
6. Use this procedure to manually back up the conguration.
a. Back up the volume history le:
tsm: INTERNAL>backup volhistory filenames=c:\tsmbackup\volhistory
b. Backupthedeviceconguration:
tsm: INTERNAL>backup devconfig filenames=c:\tsmbackup\devconfig
c. Back up the server options le:
Copy le C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\server1\dsmserv.opt to c:\tsmbackup.
d. Copy these three les to a safe location.
7. Create a list of off-site media to retrieve:
tsm: INTERNAL>query drmedia * wherestate=vaultretrieve
In this example the list will be empt y. Usually, however, a courier would take the database, storage
pool, and conguration backups off-site and would return with the media that contain data that is no
longer valid so that the media can be used for the next cycle.
Recovering the backup ser ver
The following steps explain how to recover the backup server by using b a ckup m edia that have been
stored off-site.
See the TSM Administrator’s Guide, p articularly pages 751 and 782, for m ore information.
Example: Recovering the server from a disaster
This example is based on the previous example, assuming that the backup server was destroyed and has
to be rebuilt fr om the media that is stored off-site (TAPE.2 and 3, the recovery plan le). To simulate
destruction of the backup server, simply reinstall it after you remove the two remaining volumes (TAPE.1
and4)fromtheserverandestablishafreshsystem.
