PST Importer overview
PST Importer allows system administrators to:
Load legacy
(pre-RISS 1.0) PST les into RISS.
Scan PST les to ensure RISS nd s and archives new messages.
Provide optional “tombstoning of messages in PST les.
NOTE:
PST Import
er modies messages by removing attachments and possibly b ody content. This altered
message is
referred to as a tombstone. You may be more familiar with the term stub. Outlook users see a
stub icon
next to tombstoned messages. PCC screens also use stub to refer to tombstones.

PST Importer process
The following is the PST Importer process:
1. Create or plan to use an existing Archive Request le. T o create this le, use Archi ve Request Loader
manually or with a script.
2. Use Archive Request Loader to validate that each lesetintheArchiveRequestle is available and
has not been imported. Each validated le is added to PST.MDB for processing.
3. UsePSTImportMonitortocompletetheimportprocess.PSTImporterreadsthePSTle, and selects
messages that have not been tombstoned or archived for processing. Also use PST Importer to
modify the m essage by removing the body (depending on content type) and attachments. This saves
the m essage as a tombstone or stub. Tombstoning is optional.
Archive Request le
The Archive Request le denes the set of documents to be archived. Each le requires the following:
Universal Naming Convention (UNC) pa th
Option to distribute emails to all recipients (Fr om, To, Cc, and Bcc)
Option to tombstone a nd remove body and/or attachments
List of user repositories to receive document
