To maintain and protect the data repository (vCenter and Site Recovery Manager databases), make
sure that the database servers are in a cluster configuration.
Site configuration
Site Recovery Manager is installed as a plug-in to VMware vCenter (VC) server. Both Site Recovery
Manager and VC require a back-end database to store metadata necessary to facilitate normal
operations. Both the protected site and recovery sites require local databases to operate. Decide
which site will operate as the protected site and which site will operate as the recovery site, and
perform the following steps:
1. Install the supported SQL Server or Oracle database at both sites. Refer to the Oracle SQL Server
Installation Guide and the VMware Installation Guide.
2. Install vCenter 4.0 on both the protected site and the recovery site.
3. Install Site Recovery Manager 4.0 on both the protected site and the recovery site. See the
VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager Administrator Guide.
4. Configure or modify the DNS settings and the networking settings.
HP SVSP configuration
To use VMware Site Recovery Manager, you must set up and configure HP SVSP asynchronous
mirroring for all virtual disks that contain datastores for the virtual machines (VMs) that will be protected.
