HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform 2.1 release notes (5697-8060, March 2009)
Description
HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform (SVSP) is a hardware and software solution
that enhances the storage capabilities of approved storage arrays. Using Virtualization Service
Manager (VSM) software, redundant VSM servers and Data Path Modules (DPMs) map application
server I/O to locations on storage systems.
Versions
HP SAN Virtualization Services Platform 2.1, which includes:
• Virtualization Services Manager software version 1.1.398.0–D supported by LSI HBA driver version
9.1.3.17 dated 5/14/2007.
• Data Path Module software version 5.1.41–10c.
HP provides supported applications for anti-virus protection and the imaging of installation restore
points. Other applications may work, but the following were tested with the HP SAN Virtualization
Services Platform:
• Symantec AntiVirus 10.x
• Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 2.0
Product models
• HP StorageWorks Data Path Module
• HP ProLiant DL360 G5 server for the HP SAN Virtualization Services Platform Manager (or Virtu-
alization Services Manager). The server runs Microsoft Windows Server Standard Edition 2003
with Storport driver 9.1.3.18 or later and the ProLiant Smart Array SAS/SATA controller driver
6.8.0.32 or greater.
Prerequisites
A dual-fabric SAN with approved storage arrays using B- or C-Series switches. See the HP Single
Point of Connectivity Knowledge (SPOCK) website athttp://www.hp.com/storage/spock for supported
switch firmware. Site registration is required.
Enhancements
• Increased maximum throughput by adding a second pair of DPMs.
• Double the number of host and array ports.
• Same shared storage for both DPM pairs.
• Stretched domain
• Splits the domain in half, with one half of the DPM pair at each site, and one VSM at each
site.
• When used with synchronous mirrors, provides basic metro-area disaster recovery capability.
