Presenting SVSP virtual disks to servers
The HBAs of a server need to be defined so that the DPM can customize its interface to the operating
system of the server that will be using the virtual disk. This is done by creating a user defined host
(UDH), which is an alias definition for the server's HBAs with a common property that sets the operating
system. The DPMs use the UDH for selective LUN presentation to one or more UDHs. If the UDH is
not defined, a virtual disk can be created, but cannot be presented to a host. To be used, a UDH
must be created. Granting access permissions is done per UDH, and not per HBA.
NOTE:
Verify that the appropriate multipath drivers are installed and configured before presenting (or
re-presenting in the case of a replacement server) any LUNs from the SVSP domain to the server.
Creating the user defined host (UDH)
NOTE:
Knowing the WWPN or WWNN of the server HBAs is helpful before starting this procedure. This
information can usually be found using the server's device management tools or a query to the Fibre
Channel switch to which the server is attached (for example, display the switch's name server entries).
1. Place a mouse cursor on the host menu.
2. Right-click and select New.
3. Follow the wizard prompts that ask for a host name, OS type, and LUN range.
Creating VSM virtual disks
1. Place a mouse cursor over the virtual disk identity in the left-side menu.
2. Right-click and select New.
3. Follow the prompts.
4. Present to a previously defined UDH.
5. On the server (UDH), discover the new LUN.
Defining hosts in SVSP
This section describes how to attach SVSP virtual disks to servers by operating system.
HP-UX servers
1. Run ioscan on all HP-UX hosts.
2. Create HP-UX user-defined hosts (UDHs) from absent HBAs.
3. Right-click on HP-UX UDHs and set the host to offline.
4. Present volumes to the offline HP-UX hosts.
