HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform Manager User Guide (5697-0454, May 2010)

3. From the Mode dropdown box, select one of the following:
Continue-on-FailIf a task fails, the mirror service continues to service the application by using
other tasks if possible.
Always synchronizedIf a task fails, all tasks in the group are paused. Host applications
cannot use the group until a user resolves the problem.
4. Click Next. A confirmation dialog appears.
5. Click Finish. The sync mirror group mode changes to the new selection.
Resuming synchronous mirror groups
If a sync mirror group switches to Partial or Failed status, and you fix the problem, use the Resume
operation to recover the group.
When the status is Partial, the agent tries to detect the most updated virtual disk and all the tasks
are resynchronized to that virtual disk.
When the status is Failed, the host agent tries to resume the task(s) that failed and, when successful,
resumes all tasks.
The group status might change to Snap-sync until the process of resuming is complete. For a de-
scription of how to recover from failures, refer to the HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Ser vices
Platform administrator guide.
To resume a group:
1. Right-click the group.
2. Click Resume. A confirmation screen appears.
3. Click Finish. The agent running on the host tries to resume the group. Check the group state to
see if the group resumed successfully.
Resynchronizing synchronous mirror groups
If one of the tasks in a synchronous mirror group fails when a synchronous mirror group is running
in Continue-on-Fail mode, the other tasks continue and the groups status changes to Journal. If you
succeed in fixing the cause of failure, you can trigger the group to try to recover the failed task, using
the Resync operation. Resync is blocked during dirty progress. For information about how to try to
recover from failures, see Troubleshooting on page 310.
To resync a synchronous mirror group:
1. Right-click the group.
2. Select Resync. A confirmation screen appears.
3. Click Finish. The fabric agent running on the DPM tries to resynchronize the failed group. Check
the group state to see if the resynchronization was successful.
Deleting synchronous mirror groups
You can delete a sync mirror group under any one of the following conditions:
The groups status is Partial.
The groups status is Normal and the group has only one task.
The group has no host permissions.
Deleting a group with tasks has the following results:
