HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform Manager User Guide (5697-0454, May 2010)

23 Using the VSM event viewer
The VSM client features an event viewer, which enables you to view and manage event logs. Event
logs provide detailed histories of the events that occur in the VSM environment. You can use event
logs as audit trails to diagnose problems in the VSM environment. An event log can store up to
500,000 events.
There is one active event log per domain. You can use the event viewer to view the event log of the
domain to which you are connected. You can also import event logs from other domains and use the
event viewer to view those.
The event viewer enables you to choose between a list of all events or a list limited to the most recent
events. When specific events occur, the VSM client can automatically send event notification e-mails
to specific users. The VSM client enables you to configure the specific events that trigger event
notification e-mails and the specific users who receive event notification e-mails.
You can:
View event logs
Manage event logs
Configure event log notifications
Configure the event log file
Viewing event logs
The VSM client enables you to view and manage event logs. You can determine the granularity of
event logs. At one end of the granularity spectrum, you can view event logs for specific entities. At
the other end of the granularity spectrum, you can view event logs for the entire domain. In the middle
of the granularity spectrum, you can filter event logs with selectable criteria.
NOTE:
If the event log has a filter applied to its events, the following statement appears in the list area:
Filtered view showing <filtered> of <total> event(s). To modify an event log filter, see Filtering event
logs on page 361. To remove an event log filter, see Removing event log filters on page 362.
You can:
View the event log for the local domain
View event logs for specific entities
View imported event logs
Refresh event logs
Filter event logs
Remove event log filters
View, copy, and print event details
