Rescanning the SAN for back-end LUs
VSM enables you to trigger a rescan of the SAN for back-end LUs. This is useful when a hardware
change was made, such as adding a new storage system to the SAN, and the storage system was
not automatically detected by the operating system.
To rescan back-end LUs:
1. In the navigation tree, expand the Entities node.
2. Under the Entities node, right-click the Back-End LU node.
3. Select Rescan devices. A confirmation screen appears.
4. Click Finish. VSM scans the SAN for storage systems. The Back-End LUs list and access paths
are updated.
Import back-end LU data to a VSM virtual disk
If a back-end LU contains data that was previously not managed by VSM, use the Import-in-Place
operation to configure the back-end LU while maintaining the data and making the data manageable
by VSM.
Before you perform an Import-in-Place operation, the back-end LU is displayed as present but not
configured, since the back-end LU is not yet a member of a storage pool. Ensure that both DPMs list
the Import-in-Place LUN before starting the process.
The Import-in-Place operation does the following:
