Error with DeleteVirtualDisk command when virtual disk LUN number is out of range
When deleting a virtual disk with the DeleteVirtualDisk command, and the LUN number is out
of range, you will receive a SCSI I/O error message. This is expected behavior.
The CreateAsyncMirrorGroupEx command cannot be run in Linux
At this time, the CreateAsyncMirrorGroupEx command cannot be run in Linux. HP is working to
resolve this issue.
VSS hardware provider issues
The following are known restrictions and limitations for the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS)
hardware provider:
The hardware provider cannot create a snapshot on a synchronous mirror virtual disk.
The hardware provider always creates user PiTs instead of standard PiTs on asynchronous mirror
virtual disks.
When deleting a PiT that is in a "precommitted" state, a This will delete the snapshot
set warning appears. If the deletion is approved, the VSS PiT is deleted or rolled back to a PiT
"below" the VSS PiT.
If the shadow copy set includes one virtual disk that belongs to a VDG, an error is displayed. You
must add all the VDG virtual disks to the shadow copy set.
A VSS snapshot (consistent with the application) cannot be created from the VSM GUI.
Deletion of PiTs can be initiated by the capacity manager algorithm of VSM, which is treated as
if a user deleted the PiTs.
VSS snapshots and VDG snapshots must not be restored.
Once a VSS snapshot is deleted using the VSM GUI, a hardware rescan is required.
If a VSM or DPM failure occurs, an error is displayed, and there is no ability to retry failing
operations with the hardware provider.
A snapshot set is not supported over multiple domains.
The VSS provider only supports differential snapshots and not "plex" (full copy) snapshots.
Automatic export of VMware-created snapshots running on a Windows Virtual Machine is not
supported, and should be done manually.
Documentation issues
When the SVSP documentation mentions the VSM server, this can refer to different generations of the
HP ProLiant DL360 hardware. The original version (VSM v1) was the DL360 G5, the next version
(VSM v2) was the DL360 G6, and the latest server is the DL360 G7. Information on these three servers
can be obtained on the HP ProLiant website at:
http://www.hp.com/support/manuals
Under servers, select ProLiant ml/dl and tc series servers, and then select the specific server.
Information for the VSM v2 server can also be obtained in the HP StorageWorks Virtualization Services
Manager v2 server user guide at:
http://www.hp.com/support/manuals
Under storage, select Storage Software and then select HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services
Platform under Storage Virtualization Software.
SVSP documentation in future releases will refer to the model of server and not by a VSM version
number.
