HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform administrator guide (5697-8056, March 2009)

NOTE:
Do not expand LUNs that are already configured in VSM. If a particular storage pool runs out of
free space and you want to expand it, create a new virtual disk on the array and add it to the
same pool.
Do not change LUN numbers for LUNs that are already managed by VSM.
Remove LUNs from VSM management only after releasing them from storage pools and stripe
sets.
Do not use any array-based features such as local replication on any virtual disk presented to the
SVSP domain.
Once a virtual disk is presented to the SVSP domain, do not change any characteristics of the
virtual disk.
Adding new capacity
1. If not already defined in the array manager (for example, HP Command View EVA), create or
define each pair of DPM quads within the DPM group as servers or hosts.
2. If not already defined in the array manager (for example, HP Command View EVA), create or
define the VSM servers as servers.
3. Create the new back-end LU.
4. Present the new back-end LU to at least one and not more than two DPM quads per DPM group
and VSM servers.
NOTE:
On some arrays, the term
present
is also known as
permission
for allowing access.
To discover new back-end LUNs, perform a rescan from Computer Management on the VSM server.
Do not use the Rescan devices option from the Windows Management GUI. Use this general procedure
when assigning a new storage array LUN:
1. Log in to the VSM server, right-click on the My Computer icon, and select Manage.
2. Click Device Manager. In the right pane, right-click Disk Drives, and select Scan for hardware
changes.
3. After the screen stops refreshing, open the VSM GUI and navigate to Entities > Back End LUs >
Rescan Devices. The added LUs appear in the GUI under the list of back-end LUs.
Adding new servers
An active-passive multipath driver is required on any server that has access to the HP StorageWorks
SAN Virtualization Services Platform. Multipath information for Linux and Windows is available at
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/sanworks/multipathoptions/index.html. HP-UX 11iv2 requires
a purchase of the appropriate number of Secure Path licenses. (HP-UX 11iv3 does not require the
addition of a new multipath driver.)
