1. Connect to the main site's SVSP domain and prepare the virtual disk for a merge, as follows:
a. Verify that the virtual disk exists.
b. Detach the task.
c. Remove host presentations from the virtual disk. Since the virtual disk has PiTs, this involves
either disconnecting the hosts or powering them down, and deleting them from the Host list
once their statuses change to Absent.
d. Delete any snapshots on the virtual disk. The virtual disk is now ready to become the
destination virtual disk of a new group created by merging the current production virtual
disk on the DR site.
2. Connect to the DR site's SVSP domain and run a merge on the current production virtual disk,
enabling rollback and specifying the original virtual disk on the main site as the destination virtual
disk. The mirror service creates an async mirror group and task, mirroring from the DR site to the
main site.
3. Perform a controlled failback to the main site, as follows:
a. Plan a downtime window for the application, based on the organization’s needs and the
amount of source data waiting to be replicated.
b. At the scheduled time, shut down the application, which is currently using a virtual disk on
the DR site.
c. Unmount the virtual disk on the host at the DR site.
d. Connect to the DR SVSP domain.
e. Remove the host presentations from the virtual disk. Since the virtual disk has PiTs, this involves
either disconnecting the hosts or powering them down, and deleting them from the Host list
once their statuses change to Absent.
f. Create a user PiT.
g. Wait until the mirror service has finished copying the user PiT to the main site.
h. Suspend the group.
i. Split the group.
j. Connect to the main site's SVSP domain.
k. Assign the host permission to use the virtual disk on the main site.
l. Run a merge on the virtual disk, specifying the virtual disk on the DR site as the destination
virtual disk. Do not enable rollback. The mirror service creates an async mirror group and
task, mirroring from the main site to the DR site.
Failing over to a disaster recovery site when the main site is
totally lost
If a disaster occurs and your main site is totally lost, you can recover your applications from their
mirrored virtual disks on the DR site.
To recover an application using the DR site:
1. Log in to the DR site's SVSP domain.
2. Take the necessary measures to verify that the SVSP domains stay disconnected until you reach
the proper conditions where they can once again be connected.
