HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform 3.0 release notes (5697-0404, April 2010)

Fixes
The following issues were fixed in HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform from version
2.1.1 to version 3.0:
PiT expansions to a thin volume could fail as a result of fragmentation.
Multiple areas were improved that resulted in both VSMs receiving FEE1DEAD and memory dumps
for unknown reasons.
The export query label appeared as an empty or blank string on the query menu.
A rolling DPM SAC reboot would occur when a synchronous mirror with a PiT was greater than
4 TB.
After many asserts and a core dump, the VSM would not restart after a reboot.
There was no way to show the number of events using a filter.
An unstable system state would occur after running 256 asynchronous mirrors while performing
a RAID controller reboot after having a pool capacity alert.
After replacing a DPM, the new DPM would not automatically become part of the DPM group
even though it had the same WWNN and rank.
Fixed an issue where the DPM would reboot unexpectedly when an ESX server used an I/O size
larger than 3 MB. By default, an ESX server uses a 32 MB max size for certain operations, such
as Storage Vmotion. HP best practices recommend changing the ESX software advanced setting
Disk.DiskMaxIOSize to 1024 KB from the default of 32,768 KB. This setting should enhance
SVSP performance.
A warning message would not be generated after exceeding the maximum limit on the number
of PiTs in a DPM group.
Setup disk corruption could occur when a VSM was being upgraded.
E-mail notification message titles did not have event IDs listed.
The VSM was unable to run a rescan on a DPM.
Modifying a VSM to support IPV6 would disable the Monitor application.
Prerequisites
A dual-fabric SAN as defined by the HP SAN Design Reference Guide (http://www.hp.com/go/
SANDesignGuide), with approved storage arrays using B- or C-series switches. See the HP Single
Point of Connectivity Knowledge (SPOCK) website at http://www.hp.com/storage/spock for supported
switch firmware. Site registration is required.
Enhancements
HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform version 3.0 adds:
VSS and SMI-S providers: Pre-enables future integration with other HP applications
VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) support: Enables simpler management of virtual machine
multisite disaster recovery
