HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform Administrator Guide (5697-0934, May 2011)

4. Select Add Storage and follow the VMware wizard to create a Datastore.
The only supported multipathing policy is the Most Recently Used Path, using the VMware native
multipath driver.
In the Manage Path window for a particular Datastore built on top of a virtual disk assigned by
SVSP, four paths (two paths for each DPM) are shown. Two paths are marked as Active, as this is
the active DPM for that virtual disk, and the VMware native multipath driver is routing the I/O
through one of the paths to the active DPM marked Active (I/O).

Rescan SAN operations
HP recommends that whenever a change is made to the front-side zone a "Rescan SAN" operation
is performed on all ESX servers. This is particularly important after recovery of a path failure or
when an DPM is replaced. If a "Rescan SAN" is not performed, the ESX server may not know
about new available paths and will operate in a single path mode.
The VMware vCenter GUI or esxcfg -mpath -1 command should be used to verify that all
expected paths have been discovered and are marked as available.
Resizing SVSP virtual disks and the VMware Datastore
SVSP virtual disks and the VMware Datastore using the SVSP virtual disk can be extended with no
downtime. To resize the virtual disks:
1. From the VSM GUI, choose Entity > Virtual Disk, and select the virtual disk you would like to
expand. Right-click on the virtual disk name, and select Manage > Expand.
2. Follow the process in the HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Service Platform Manager
User Guide on how to expand a VSM virtual disk.
