HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform Administrator Guide (5697-0934, May 2011)

3. From the VMware ESX server, select the Configuration tab and click Storage Adapter. Choose
the QLA/LP HBA and select Rescan. Verify that you can see the LUN with the new (extended)
size.
4. Repeat these steps for all ESX servers that use this shared LUN storage (like in a VMware
cluster).
5. Follow the VMware vSphere procedures to resize or increase the Datastore.
Virtual machine migration (VMotion)
A virtual machine can be migrated three ways with VMware vSphere:
From one ESX host to another ESX host, provided that both ESX servers (source and destination)
have access to the same Datastore. SVSP must expose the virtual disk serving the Datastore
to both ESX (UDH) servers with the same LU number. This migration can be done while the
virtual machine is online.
From one Datastore to another Datastore, provided the ESX host has access to both Datastores.
SVSP must expose both virtual disks (serving the two Datastores) to the same ESX server. This
type of migration can be done while the virtual machine is online.
From one ESX host to another ESX host and from one Datastore to another Datastore at the
same time, provided both ESX servers can access both Datastores. SVSP must expose both
virtual disks (serving the two Datastores) to both ESX servers. This type of migration must be
done while the virtual machine is offline.
Follow the VMware vSphere procedures to migrate the virtual machine.
Assigning virtual disk snapshots to the same or other ESX servers
With SVSP, a virtual disk snapshot that serves one or more Datastores can be assigned to the same
ESX server that the source virtual disk is assigned, or to another ESX server.
1. Follow the HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform Manager User Guide to
create a PiT, and then a snapshot for the source virtual disk.
2. Follow the HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform Manager User Guide to
assign the snapshot to the same or another ESX (UDH) server.
3. From the VMware vCenter GUI, select the ESX host you want to expose to the snapshot, click
the Configuration tab and then click Storage Adapters. Select the QLA/LP FC HBA, and then
click Refresh or Rescan.
4. When the refresh or rescan operation is complete you will see (if the ESX server has the original
virtual disk) two disks with the same size but with different LUN numbers. One LUN number
is the for the original virtual disk (usually the lower number) and the other is the for the snapshot.
Otherwise you will see (if the ESX server does not have the original virtual disk) one disk with
the same size as the original virtual disk.
