HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform Administrator Guide (5697-0934, May 2011)

VMware multipathing
For VMware, the multipathing policy must be set to the Most Recently Used (MRU) path.
Windows multipathing
1. Go to http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/sanworks/softwaredrivers/multipathoptions/
windows.html.
2. Under Select your product, click Windows MPIO DSM for SVSP. This product contains an
active-passive multipath driver.
3. Select your operating system.
4. Select your software/driver language.
5. Select HP MPIO Full Featured DSM, and then click Download for that product version.
6. Read and print the readme file included with the downloaded driver. The file contains
installation instructions and any limitations.
7. Disconnect the server from the SAN.
8. Install the multipathing drivers.
In a configuration with a large number of devices configured with large number of paths, there
can be a long boot up time as Windows detects devices and loads drivers. After the drivers are
installed, you must enable persistent binding to maintain consistent driver letters. Described below
are procedures for QLogic and Emulex HBAs.
QLogic HBAs with Windows
To enable persistent binding with QLogic HBAs:
1. Launch Sansurfer. This application can be downloaded from hp.com or qlogic.com.
2. Connect to Localhost. The utility displays all QLogic HBAs recognized in the system.
3. Select the port on the HBA to be enabled for persistent binding.
4. Select the Target Persistent Binding tab.
5. Bind the WWPN to a Target ID.
6. Click Save, and enter the password on the security check popup. If this is the first time you
have used the SanSurfer application, and you have not changed the default password, the
password is config.
7. Restart the server to make the changes effective.
