Description HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform (SVSP) is a hardware and software solution that enhances the storage capabilities of approved storage arrays. Using Virtualization Service Manager (VSM) software, redundant VSM servers and Data Path Modules map application server I/O to locations on storage systems. Versions HP SAN Virtualization Services Platform 2.02, which includes: • Virtualization Services Manager software version 1.1.335.4 supported by LSI HBA driver version 9.1.3.
Prerequisites A dual-fabric SAN with approved storage arrays using B- or C-Series switches. See the HP Single Point of Connectivity Knowledge (SPOCK) website at http://www.hp.com/storage/spock for supported switch firmware. Site registration is required. Installation instructions For a new installation of Virtualization Services Manager or Data Path Module software, follow the procedures described in the HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform installation and configuration guide.
Devices supported See the HP Single Point of Connectivity Knowledge (SPOCK) website at http://www.hp.com/storage/ spock for approved driver and firmware versions for host bus adapters used with HP-UX, Linux, Microsoft Windows Server, and VMware operating systems. Site registration is required. SVSP-supported storage arrays See the HP Single Point of Connectivity Knowledge (SPOCK) website at http://www.hp.com/storage/ spock for a list of SVSP-approved storage arrays. Site registration is required.
• Maximum front-end presentations per DPM: 8192 (4096 LUNs with 2 paths per virtual disk per DPM) • Maximum number of initiators per virtual disk: 16 (8 dual-port hosts) if supported by OS and multipath drivers • Maximum number of virtual disk members in a virtual disk group: 32 • Maximum number of total active asynchronous remote copies, snapclones, and concurrent migration jobs per SVSP system: 256 • Maximum number of asynchronous mirror tasks (remote copies) per source virtual disk: 3 • Maximum number of
• • • • • states. See Chapter 8 of the HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform installation and configuration guide for information on the setup virtual disk. The Windows system disk of the VSM server and the VSM setup virtual disk must not be converted into a dynamic disk. Restoring a VSM setup from a backup can be safely performed only if there are no PiTs in the system.
• You cannot add synchronous mirroring to a member of an asynchronous mirror group due to the existence of the asynchronous PiTs. However, you can first create a synchronous mirror and then add the asynchronous mirror group to it. Operational best practices • Should you want to delete, remove, or undo an operation to an SVSP entity, it is best if you reverse the processes that were used to get you to that operational stage.
Operating system issues PA-RISC machines for HP-UX cannot boot from an external disk PA-RISC machines running HP-UX were tested for the ability of HP-UX to be installed directly to a disk presented by a storage array. The machines could not consistently reboot from an external disk, therefore this is not supported at this time.
Letter t in long PiT or snapshot names If a PiT or snapshot is created with a long name containing 31 characters, the next to last (30th) character must not be a "t." For example, the name dManual_Prod_Backup_mirror_PIT3 must not be used for a PiT or snapshot name. Secure session between VSM client and VSM not possible Secure sessions (https) between the VSM client and VSM application cannot be used at this time.
3. 4. Ensure the LUNs are configured in the correct operation mode (Controller A failover/failback or Controller B failover/failback) and present the LUNs again. Perform a rescan as described in step 2. Import some HP and IBM back-end LUs only to designated pools HP HSG-80 and IBM FAStT 200/500 LUNs should be imported-in-place only to pools designated for LUN import, as no new volumes may be created from these pools. Data must be migrated to another pool that is not designated for LUN import.
• If an IPv6 address is added or deleted while VSM is running, the VSM Monitor cannot detect this change without restarting the VSM application. • Downloading the VSM GUI client for IPv6 (for example, when IPv6 is configured as the desired communication protocol between the web server and the client) must be done using the Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or Mozilla Firefox (version 3.0.3 and higher) browser. There is a known limitation with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, and it cannot be used.
DPM issues I/O errors/timeouts when performing failover on large numbers of synchronously mirrored virtual disks If there is a heavy load of I/O on a large number of synchronously mirrored virtual disks and an event occurs that requires a large number of virtual disks to be failed over at the same time (for example, a reboot of a DPM), it is possible that I/O errors or timeouts may be returned to the hosts.
in this version. If you want to modify these ports, it can be done with the CLI. This restriction will be removed in a future release. DPM GUI fails to configure GE1 to AUTO An error is returned when attempting to modify an Ethernet port (other than MGMT) with the GUI. The MGMT port can be modified with the GUI. Use of the non-MGMT Ethernet ports is not supported in this version. If you want to modify these ports, it can be done with the CLI. This restriction will be removed in a future release.
An SNMP trap is not generated when power is removed from redundant PCM When a single PCM fails, no SNMP trap is generated. This is a condition that should trigger an alert to the administrator. HP is working to resolve this issue. Cannot disable SNMP daemon The default show debug dump command attempts to output several binary files to the console. This results in unreadable output. The default output set is appropriate for saving to a file (for example, create debug dump), but not for terminal output.
Incorrect message displayed with MigrateVirtualDisk command The CLI command MigrateVirtualDisk displays an Operation ended successfully message, even though the command was not performed by the SVSP due to a pool alert (failure to create the PiT). HP is working to resolve this issue. Incorrect error message when creating 65th PiT on a virtual disk When creating the 65th PiT on a virtual disk, you receive an error message indicating A SCSI error in I/O to the switch.
Incorrect error message when ManageSnapcloneGroup command is missing the Opcode argument in HP-UX If the Opcode argument is missing from the ManageSnapcloneGroup command in HP-UX, you will receive an incorrect error message stating that both parameters are missing, instead of only the Opcode missing. HP is working to resolve this issue. The CreateSnapcloneGroupEx command fails with HP-UX if the group is still building The CreateSnapcloneGroupEx command should run the first time.
check box for volumes other than the set up volumes. Also note that “Service Guard” on the screen should be spelled “Serviceguard.” • Should you see the terms EVA Virtualization Services or EVA VS in any documentation, be aware that the product name has changed to SAN Virtualization Services Platform.
