HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform 2.02 release notes (5697-8024, February 2009)
Devices supported
See the HP Single Point of Connectivity Knowledge (SPOCK) website at http://www.hp.com/storage/
spock for approved driver and firmware versions for host bus adapters used with HP-UX, Linux,
Microsoft Windows Server, and VMware operating systems. Site registration is required.
SVSP-supported storage arrays
See the HP Single Point of Connectivity Knowledge (SPOCK) website at http://www.hp.com/storage/
spock for a list of SVSP-approved storage arrays. Site registration is required.
Capabilities and limitations
For a glossary of terms used in this document, refer to other SVSP documentation like the HP
StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform installation and configuration guide.
SVSP system capabilities and limitations
• Maximum capacity per system: 1 PB
• Maximum number of VSMs per system: 2
• Maximum number of DPMs per system: 2
• Maximum number of array ports: 64
For example:
• 16 arrays with 4–ports each
• 8 arrays with 8–ports each
• Any combination totalling up to 64 ports
• Maximum number of servers (with 2 HBA ports/server) per SVSP system: 512
SVSP front-end capabilities and limitations
• Front-end presented capacity of the SVSP system: 1 PB (Maximum of back-end. See the following
back-end section for additional limitations.)
• Maximum number of virtual disks (including snapshots, snapclones, 4 paths): 4093 + 3 setup
virtual disks
• Maximum number of virtual disks per host: 255 (LUNs 1–255)—depending on operating system
• Maximum size of virtual disk: 2047 GB
• Minimum size of virtual disk: 1 GB
• Maximum number of PiTs per virtual disk: 32 at 10–minute intervals or 64 at 60–minute intervals
• The minimum interval between point in time (PiT) copies is 10 minutes. This also limits the minimum
asynchronous replication (remote mirror) recovery point objective to the same 10–minute interval.
• Maximum number of mirror PiTs (required PiTs + PiTs alert) on either source or destination virtual
disk or virtual disk group: 16
• Total number of PiTs per SVSP system: 4096
• Maximum snapshots per PiT: 32
• Maximum snapshot per virtual disk: 64
