HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform Administrator Guide (5697-0934, May 2011)

Presentation problems

Corrective actionProblem
Verify that the correct preferred path is configured with
HP Command View EVA or the ACU for each LUN that
is exposed. If so, reboot the VSM server.
If the preferred path is incorrect, unpresent the virtual
disks to VSM, rescan with VSM to remove the virtual
disks, fix the presentation mode on HP Command View
EVA or the ACU, re-present the LUNs to VSM, and
rescan with VSM.
Back-end LUNs cannot be seen, even after a rescan using
the VSM GUI.
Verify that all VSM HBAs are properly zoned to the EVA
or MSA. If the VSM or DPM can see any LUN from the
EVA or MSA with the correct number of paths, then the
problem is not zoning.
Verify that all DPM back-side ports are properly zoned
to the EVA or MSA.
Verify that all VSM HBAs are properly defined in HP
Command View EVA or the ACU with one host name
for each VSM associated with all HBAs installed in that
VSM.
Verify that all DPM back-side ports are properly defined
in HP Command View EVA or the ACU with at least
one host name for each DPM associated with all
back-side ports in that DPM. Also supported is one EVA
or MSA host name per DPM “quad.
Compare the VSM listing of virtual disks with the DPM
Path Info table in the sac.log. Verify that the DPM
sees all of the paths to the virtual disks.
Verify that all EVA or MSA virtual disks are presented
to both VSMs and both DPMs.
VSM/DPM does not see any virtual disks on the EVA or
MSA
Verify that each of the server's HBAs are zoned to one
front-side port per DPM.
VSM does not see the HBA of a new server.
A degraded status means that one of the server's HBAs is
not visible on the SAN.
Verify all of the server’s HBAs indicate a link to the
SAN.
Verify the HBA is zoned to one port of each DPM.
VSM lists the status of a server as degraded.

Report the problem to HP support. The setup database will
have to be modified to reset the password to a known
value.
Cannot remember the administrator account password.
Log in with the administrator user name and password and
reset the user password to a known value.
Cannot remember non-administrative account password.
Zoning verification
The following sections describe how to verify the zoning for the VSM server and the DPM. Use
these sections to troubleshoot zoning issues.
