HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform Administrator Guide (5697-0934, May 2011)

4. Present the new back-end LU to at least one and not more than two DPM quads per DPM
group and VSM servers.
NOTE: On some arrays, the term present is also known as permission for allowing access.
To discover new back-end LUNs, perform a rescan from Computer Management on the VSM server.
Do not use the Rescan devices option from the Windows Management GUI. Use this general
procedure when assigning a new storage array LUN:
1. Log in to the VSM server, right-click on the My Computer icon, and select Manage.
2. Click Device Manager. In the right pane, right-click Disk Drives, and select Scan for hardware
changes.
3. After the screen stops refreshing, open the VSM GUI and navigate to Entities > Back End LUs
> Rescan Devices. The added LUs appear in the GUI under the list of back-end LUs.
Adding new servers
This section describes special requirements when installing or upgrading host servers. When setting
up a new server, be sure to balance the workload on the DPMs by using the primary/secondary
properties of the virtual disk
Upgrading the AIX operating system
The following are two ways to upgrade the AIX operating system technology level (TL). Some of
the commands below use hdisk3 as the name of a disk, which may be different on your system.
AIX on local drive or booting from a SAN other than with the HP SVSP
NOTE: Back up all data before attempting these upgrades.
1. Before upgrading to a new TL/ML, remove SVSP disks. For example, use rmdev dRl
hdisk3.
To identify an SVSP disk, check the properties of the disk and look for node_name” property
which should show the WWN of the SVSP array. For example:
# lsattr -El hdisk3|grep node_name
node_name 0x50011fe12a56ac00 FC Node Name False
2. Make sure that the host does not see the SVSP volumes (separate the host in the SVSP zoning).
3. Uninstall SVSP MPIO from the system. For example:
# installp u devices.fcp.disk.HP.svsp.mpio.rte
Verify that it’s been uninstalled properly. For example:
# lslpp -l devices.fcp.disk.HP.svsp.mpio.rte
The above command should return no output.
4. Install the TL/ML (follow instructions provided by IBM).
5. Reboot the server.
6. Install the HP SVSP MPIO kit. For installation instruction, refer to the AIX SVSP MPIO installation
instructions.
7. Bring the host back into the SVSP zone so that it can see the SVSP array.
8. Run the cfgmgr command on the host to recognize the disks.
