For the Syslog pane:
Server IP—Enter the IP address of the syslog server to which the VSM needs to send the
events
Server port—Enter the UDP port on which the VSM communicates with the syslog server.
UDP port 514 is the default port for syslog communications.
6. Use the Send test notification after update check box to run a test notification. Make sure that
the settings you have configured work properly.
Configuring which alerts to send
To configure the specific events that trigger event notification emails, you must configure an event
log notification group. An event log notification group is a group of users who are notified when
certain events occur. Before you can configure an event log notification group to receive
notifications, you need to make sure that the members of the group use a common email address.
A group can contain only a single user if this is appropriate for a site. In this case, enter the email
address for that user.
Creating a new event log notification group
1. From the Tools menu in the VSM GUI, select Options > Event Log.
The Options dialog box appears.
2. Click the Notifications tab.
3. Click Add New e-Mail Group.
The Create notification group dialog appears.
4. Complete these text fields in the Create notification group dialog:
Name—Enter a name for the new event log notification group.
e-mail—Enter a single common email address for the event log notification group.
Comment—Enter descriptive information about the event log notification group. This text
field is optional.
Select options for create—From the dropdown box, select one of these options:
