HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform administrator guide (5697-0204, January 2010)

1. Using the VMware VI client GUI, choose the ESX server, select the Configuration tab, and then
click the Advance Settings link. On the left menu window choose Disk.
Disk.UseDeviceResetMake sure this setting is set to 0. This setting forces VMware to not
send a target reset to the DPM port when initiating a failover, allowing the failover to be done
on a more granular, per-LUN basis (see Disk.UseLunReset below).
Disk.UseLunResetMake sure this setting is set to 1. This setting forces VMware to send a
LUN reset when initiating a failover.
2. Under the Advanced Settings GUI, choose LVM on the left menu window.
LVM.EnableResignatureMake sure this is set to 0.
LVM.DisallowSnapshotLunMake sure this is set to 0.
These settings allow other ESX servers to see snapshots as normal DATASTOREs instead of a new
raw LUN. If exposing the snapshot back to the same ESX server is needed, make sure the
LVM.DisallowSnapshotLun is set to 1.
Repeat these steps for each ESX server in the environment.
3. Using the VMware VI client GUI, choose the ESX server, select the Configuration tab and then
choose the Storage Adapter link.
