to their original positions. A virtual disk used for a synchronous mirror and then exported when
the synchronous mirror is dissolved can only be exported after the task to the mirror copy is removed.
CAUTION: If the task is detached on the original virtual disk first, the export will not be possible.
Import, clone, and return capacity
You can import an LU into SVSP management and then use a snapclone to make a copy of the
imported virtual disk to a new storage pool. After the copy is complete, you can export the imported
LU to reclaim the capacity as free space.
Import from array
You can import-in-place an LU at a time or many at a time. This process is quick, and it is then
recommended that the LUs be migrated to an appropriate storage pool (doing this assures that it
will be placed onto storage in the pool—that is, many spindles, striped, and so on). When all of
the LUs from that array have been imported, the storage on that array can then be broken into
different appropriate sizes to be incorporated into SVSP pools or the array can be retired.
Licenses
When adding devices to an SVSP domain, you may need to install additional license keys to
increase your capacity or add an additional license type. The domain WWN is the same as the
node name of your first pair of Data Path Modules in a DPM group. A second DPM group will
have its own WWN that is different from that of the domain. License keys are obtained from the
HP website at:
http://webware.hp.com
See the HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform Administrator Guide for more
information about licensing. Additional guidelines include:
The Volume Manager license is the total storage managed by the domain, including the
synchronous mirror license. This should be greater or equal to the maximum size of all storage
pools.
The Migration license allows you to oversubscribe to the current Volume Manager license limit
for 90 days for the amount added. For example, if you add 10 TB to the Volume Manager
license, then for 90 days you can use 20 TB of capacity (10 TB at the source and 10 TB at
the destination). Note that no physical license is installed.
Business Copy, Thin Provisioning, and Continuous Access licenses reflect the capacity at the
source.
If a Continuous Access license is purchased for the source, and there is no Business Copy
license for the destination, only the most recent snapshot is usable.
SVSP licenses must be applied on both VSM servers. When a license is added, the VSM server
must be stopped and started to activate the license.
DPM port licenses:
With the SVSP hardware bundle order, you receive a license entitlement for 2 x 4 ports (basic
license).
With each quad upgrade, you receive an additional 2 x 4 port license entitlement (upgrade
license).
Although the licenses are already installed on ports 1 through 4, you must install the basic license
before installing the upgrade license. The upgraded ports are only enabled if the basic license is
installed first.
