HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform administrator guide (5697-0204, January 2010)

2 Adding devices to the domain
This chapter describes how to expand your SVSP domain by the addition of licensed capacity, arrays,
DPMs, and servers. Adding servers requires that you consider the appropriate multipathing for the
operating system and switch zoning. Only presentation for an HP Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) and
Modular Storage Array (MSA) is discussed. Please consult the vendor documentation for other types
of arrays.
NOTE:
See the HP Single Point of Connectivity Knowledge (SPOCK) website at
http://www.hp.com/storage/spock for a list of SVSP-approved storage arrays. Site registration is
required.
SVSP licenses
When adding devices to an SVSP domain, you may need to install additional license keys to increase
your capacity or add an additional license type. The Domain WWN is the same as the node name
of your first pair of Data Path Modules in a DPM group. A second DPM group will have its own WWN
that is different from that of the domain. License keys are obtained from the HP website at http://
webware.hp.com.
NOTE:
Once the domain is configured with a WWN, the WWN cannot be changed.
VSM supports many types of permanent, InstantOn, and evaluation licenses. The type of license
determines which operations you can perform. A license is valid for performing the allowed operations
on a certain amount of capacity. The basic unit of software license capacity is 1 TB. The 4port LTU
enables ports on the DPMs within the same DPM group. Most operations use license capacity. For
example, configuring a backend LU as a member of a storage pool deducts the BELU's disk capacity
from your volume management licensed capacity. The following types are available:

DescriptionLicense type
Enables you to perform the following operations within one domain:
Migrate used LUNs from SVSP-approved SAN storage systems to bring them
under VSM management.
Create storage pools and stripes
Use the migrate service.
Use the sync mirror service (one source and one copy).
