Alerts automated notification
In addition to using the VSM GUI to manually monitor the VSM system, you can configure the VSM
to provide alerts. The VSM system includes an automated alert feature. You can configure the VSM
to send alerts for specific events to an email address or to syslog servers.
Configuring the Alert Destination
To configure the alert destination perform these steps:
1. Use the VSM monitor icon on the system tray to open the VSM monitor GUI.
2. Right-click the VSMmonitor icon.
A menu appears.
3. To start the VSM monitor GUI, click Open.
The VSM monitor GUI appears.
4. Click the Notification tab.
5. Complete these text fields in the Notification tab:
For the SMTP pane:
• Server IP—Enter the IP address of the mail server that the VSM uses to send out the email
notification.
• Server port—Enter the TCP port on which the VSM communicates with the mail server. TCP
port 25 is the default port number for SMTP communication.
• Account user name—Enter the user account, on the mail server, that the VSM uses. Use the
Change button to set or modify the user account.
