OCFS2 Integration with HP Serviceguard for Linux Release Notes, First Edition, November 2008

1 OCFS2 with HP Serviceguard for Linux
Oracle Cluster File System 2 (OCFS2) has been developed to function as an independent cluster.
The Cluster Manager, O2CB, primarily focusses on managing cluster membership. While it has
its set of advantages, OCFS2 is not designed to manage complex cluster configurations. On the
other hand, HP Serviceguard for Linux has a set of advanced capabilities that provides robust
support in complex cluster configurations. Integrating OCFS2 and HP Serviceguard for Linux
provides high availability for applications and services in a cluster environment, and uses the
advantages of a cluster file system.
Following are the topics that are discussed in this section:
“Operating System Support” (page 7)
“Prerequisites to Installing OCFS2” (page 7)
“Installing OCFS2” (page 7)
Operating System Support
Following are the operating systems that this integrated solution is available on:
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10, SP1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10, SP2
For more information on supported service packs, see the HP Serviceguard for Linux Certification
Matrix available at the following location:

Prerequisites to Installing OCFS2
Following are the prerequisites to installing OCFS2 with HP Serviceguard for Linux:
Hardware Requirements:
— A minimum of three network interface cards. However, it is preferable to use four or
more network interface cards.
— Shared storage device.
Configuration Requirements
— At least one public network interface for clients to access the nodes. For availability,
this must be configured as a bonded network using an additional network card.
— Two network interface cards configured as a private network with Linux channel
bonding for OCFS2 data and Serviceguard Heartbeat.
IMPORTANT: HP Serviceguard must be configured to send heartbeats only on this
bonded interface. Multiple individual heartbeat networks for HP Serviceguard is not
supported in this integrated environment as Serviceguard needs to see the same heartbeat
failure that is seen by OCFS2. This bonding is the only way to achieve heartbeat
redundancy.
Installing OCFS2
This section elaborates on the procedures for installing OCFS2 in a Serviceguard environment.
It is assumed that HP Serviceguard for Linux is already installed on the cluster.
Complete the following procedure to install OCFS2:
1. Install the OCFS2 tools rpm package that is available on the Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise
Server (10) media.
