HP Serviceguard for Linux Version A.11.16 Release Notes, Third Edition, August 2006

Serviceguard for Linux Version A.11.16 Release Notes
Compatibility Information and Installation Requirements
Chapter 130
The node must be running with a supported release of Serviceguard
product (Example: A.11.16.02 supporting Red Hat 4)
NOTE If the target version of Serviceguard does not support the version of
the operating system currently on the node, then you must upgrade
the operating system before upgrading Serviceguard.
The first Serviceguard release to be upgraded is A.11.14.02, and the
OS upgrade for the node must be from the same Linux distribution
(Example: Red Hat AS 2.1 to Red Hat EL 3; NOT Red Hat AS 2.1 to
SLES9)
The node to be upgraded must be a member of a cluster where all its
members will be upgraded to the same level of its OS and the SG
releases.
You must review all instructions of the OS upgrade, or OS
installation if needed, to ensure that all supported applications with
the original OS will also be supported with the new OS. (For
example, make sure the applications running on the node with OS
Red Hat AS 2.1 are also supported if the node is to be installed with
Red Hat EL 3).
Verify that the new OS supports the current cluster hardware
configurations and their drivers. (For example, network interfaces,
bonding driver, shared disk storage).
NOTE If there is no HP bonding driver for the Linux version you are using,
use the bonding driver supplied with the Linux distribution.
Do a full backup on each node to be upgraded.
NOTE HP recommends you use the rolling upgrade process if possible,
because it keeps your mission-critical applications running; and also
that you update the software (rather than do a cold install) if
possible, because updating preserves the current OS and cluster
configuration. But make sure you read “Limitations of Rolling
