HP Serviceguard for Linux Version A.11.19 Release Notes, October 2009

NOTE: /etc/cmcluster.conf contains the mappings that resolve the symbolic
references to$SGCONF, $SGROOT, etc., used in these Release Notes. See “Understanding
the Location of Serviceguard Files” in Chapter 5 of the Managing HP Serviceguard for
Linux manual for details.
For more information about configuring security for prospective cluster nodes, as well
as for an existing cluster, see Chapter 5 of Managing HP Serviceguard for Linux.
Linux Distribution Differences for Serviceguard
The SUSE Linux Enterprise Server distribution of HP Serviceguard differs from the
Red Hat distributions in a few details, which are described below.
File Locations
Serviceguard uses a special file, cmcluster.conf, to define the locations for
configuration and log files within the Linux file system. The different distributions use
different locations. See “Understanding the Location of Serviceguard Files” in Chapter
5 of Managing HP Serviceguard for Linux for more information.
Ensuring Clean Shutdown of Cluster Nodes Running SUSE SLES10 and 11
To ensure that the cluster nodes halt correctly when they are shut down, edit the file
/etc/sysconfig/boot on each node and change the value of the RUN_PARALLEL
parameter from yes to no.
Implementing Channel Bonding in SUSE Linux Enterprise Server
Channel bonding implementation differs between SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and
the Red Hat distributions. Procedures for both are in Chapter 5 of Managing HP
Serviceguard for Linux, which is included on the same CD as your HP Serviceguard for
Linux software.
Preventing Boot-Time vgscan and Ensuring Serviceguard Volume Groups Are Deactivated
See Chapter 5 of Managing HP Serviceguard for Linux.
Installing HP Serviceguard for Linux
HP provides an automated installation: scripts that take you through the process of
installing and configuring Serviceguard for Linux, including Serviceguard Manager
and ancillary software. For information and instructions see the HP Serviceguard for
Linux Version A.11.19 Deployment Guide, which you can find on docs.hp.com under
High Availability > Serviceguard for Linux > White Papers.
The scripts install HP Serviceguard, and then Serviceguard Manager and other ancillary
products if you choose to do so. Go through the Pre-Installation Checklists before you
run the scripts, and then come back and do the Post-Installation Tasks (page 47).
